72 works from composers from eight countries and 32 cities were received for the competition, which was announced last autumn by the orchestra La Primavera and its art director Rustem Abyazov.
“Initially this competition was conceived as All-Russian, but very soon we realized that boundaries were very conditional. Composers from Russia, Belarus, Israel, the Czech Republic, the Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Moldova sent their compositions. We are only happy with expanding geography”, said the art director and chief conductor of the orchestra Rustem Abyazov.
Composers were supposed to submit a composition for a chamber string orchestra lasting not more than 15 minutes. Works that have never been published or performed have been allowed for the competition.
Thus La Primavera hopes to acquaint the public with art of modern composers and to replenish the repertoire of chamber orchestras.
The competition is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the orchestra, which will be celebrated in 2019.
Till September 15 the jury will evaluate the submitted works. Participation in the competition is anonymous: each composition is signed with a password-identifier. The winner, whose opus will get the majority of votes, will receive a cash bonus of 70 thousand rubles; second and third prizes, special prizes are also provided.
The best compositions will be included in the program of the gala concert, which the organizers have scheduled for October 26.
The general partner of the competition was PAO “Tatneft”.
